Director/ Head Coach Harry Powell
Coach Harry Powell has been coaching and running a gym since 1990. Like most avid martial artists of the time with the exception of traditional programs, Harry began training Jeet Kune Do. During the nineties Harry trained under the tutelage of Richard Bustillo as well as the late Larry Hartsell and ultimately became an instructor under Bustillo in 1994. Both Bustillo and Hartsell were considered the source of information if you wanted a true understanding of the different ranges of fighting or what we refer to as, “game” today.
Coach Powell has had the privilege to train with some of the best coaches and fighters throughout the world over the past thirty plus years. Most of these instructors are considered household names now however back then they were just a group of people who came together to share the knowledge and love of martial arts principals. He first started training Muay Thai with Fairtex when they opened their first gym in the US in Chandler, Arizona in 1994. Through his experiences in Arizona he began taking trips to train with the Fairtex camp in Thailand which he has continued to do to this day.
His Jiu Jitsu journey began in 1998 with Alliance in Atlanta under Master Romero “Jacare” Cavalcanti. At the time Jiu Jitsu was still in its relative infancy in the United States however Coach Powell was already bringing its principles and techniques to be a part of the great whole of his knowledge base. Coach Powell continues to travel the US and the world looking for knowledge to enrich both his game and his teaching style.
